Board and Bevel is a new startup carpentry company in Durango, CO. After searching through hundreds of bed frames listed by online retailers, Chevas Balloun of Artifact was fed up with the continuous reports of poor construction quality, structural failures, and the limited lifespans that littered their reviews. Without wanting to spend Amish-level prices, he sat down with a local carpenter, Matt Hert, and together they developed a design for a platform bed frame that was efficient to build and had a stunning look without the stunning cost. Chevas was so pleased with the bed frame, he purchased another for a family member.
Chevas then worked with Matt to come up with a name and brand to help market his services, his bed frames, and his other hand-crafted pieces. To remain within budget, Artifact put together a simple, clean site that gets directly to the point.
The Board and Bevel name came out of a brainstorming session over an evening on the patio and remarkably, the domain boardandbevel.com was available. While driving, Chevas had a vision of the “A” in board over the “V” in bevel to simulate a beveled shape. Chevas chose to craft the letters by hand in order for the words to stack precisely. A lot of Matt’s pieces are intended for the home and so we chose to avoid overly “work zone” colors such as sharp yellows and oranges.
